When the police investigate the suicide, the only identification on her is the business card Richie gave her, but when Duncan and Richie head to the morgue to help identify the body, it has vanished. The police are mystified – after all, dead bodies don’t come back to life… do they?
Several hours later, Felicia walks back into the store hoping Richie can explain how she’s alive. While Duncan tells her the truth and the dangers she still faces – and how she must prepare for them – Tessa remains wary that they know so little about the stranger in their midst. They arrive just as Natalie is being attacked by a masked intruder, dressed in a leather helmet and goggles, who seems intent on scalping her. Duncan sets off in pursuit while Tessa calls for an ambulance… but the attacker makes a getaway on a vintage motorcycle.
The police and reporter Randi MacFarland all think that this could be the work of a man they’ve called ‘The Scalper’ whose attacked women in the area before. The modus operandi of the killer, seeking tall powerful blonde women and scalping them, reminds Duncan of Marcus Korolus ( J. G. Hertler), an Immortal he met nearly seventy years before. But Duncan had to kill Marcus when his old friend went crazy with grief, murdered several women and then attacked him… so it cannot be him.
There’s a copycat killer in town, but now MacLeod must work out how the murderer is going to emulate Korolus… and Tessa may be a big part of stopping him once and for all…

However, no-one but Tessa saw the incident and with no body found in the river below, the police are highly skeptical. However, always looking for a story, maybe Randi MacFarland believes her?
The man on the bridge is an Immortal who turns up at the antique store but escapes when challenged. Tessa refuses to leave or be treated as a damsel in distress and Duncan agrees to help – ultimately recognising some of Anne’s work from two decades before in Paris.

Darius, Grayson reminds him, could have been one of the greatest warriors and rulers the world had ever known, but foregoing violence nearly 1500 years ago, the warlord changed his outlook on the world and has remained cloistered on holy ground, refusing to take part in the ‘Game’. Now Grayson has sworn to kill any man who has ever been a protégé of Darius… including a mortal man named Victor Paulus, a possible future candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize and another Immortal… called Duncan MacLeod.
As Tessa ponders a job offer in Paris, Grayson journeys the opposite way across the Atlantic and to the antique store, but Tessa has been forewarned and will not become a pawn in his game to intimidate MacLeod, refusing to be Grayson’s victim or messenger. Meanwhile, Duncan tells Richie how he first encountered Darius and how that fateful meeting changed his own outlook on life… and how Grayson may prove the toughest adversary he has ever had to face.
It’s a fight from which Duncan is far from sure he will be able to walk away…
