While there were probably some fans of Highlander who wondered if the reboot would ever get into production (because of a decade of delays, involving creative rewrites, pandemics and injuries), we now have proof-positive that filming is finally underway. Star Henry Cavill posted two images from the set showing his character (presumed by everyone to be Connor Macleod, though still technically not officially named as such) to both Instagram and Facebook.
Given that Cavill is wearing subtly different clothing in each, one could think that they are from two different time-periods in MacLeod’s long life. The first appears to be show the character in an eastern setting, surrounded by Chinese lanterns, indicating that we might get to see more of the Highlander’s travels beyond his Scottish home. The second image, much darker, shows him in what appears to be an old church. If elements of the reboot follow the beats of the 1986 original, this could be the church where Christopher Lambert’s incarnation encounters The Kurgan (then played by Clancy Brown) in ‘modern’ times. In the new version Dave Bautista will essay that villainous role.
Cavill revealed back in September 2025 that plans had been temporarily stalled while he recovered from a training injury to his leg and filming had been delayed into 2026 – but it appears he’s fully recovered and has been working for several weeks on the shoot. Beyond the images, he didn’t reveal too much in his Instagram posts but noted “…Happy First Look for Highlander! This has been quite the journey for me, which I’ll tell you all about when the time is right, but it’s a special moment to be able to share this. I hope you enjoy.”
