After a drought over the last year or so, there’s finally a LOT of news about the Highlander reboot.
With the film lensing in the UK and in exterior locations, it was inevitable that we’d finally get to see some more of the characters. After glimpses of Henry Cavill (MacLeod) and Jeremy Irons (playing the leader of the Watchers), various UK outlets have now glimpsed Dave Bautista and Siobhán Cullen filming scenes. Bautista is essaying the Kurgan and, we presume from brief character descriptions that Cullen (previously seen in The Dry) will be the modern historian and sword expert Brenda Wyatt (or an equivalent character).
We still don’t know what beats the reboot will seek to reproduce from the original, though we know the story is expanded to include aspects from the tv series (for example, those Watchers!). The images do suggest this is another modern day confrontation between the Kurgan and MacLeod, though the Kurgan appears to be less overtly ‘punk’ and more ‘grungy’ than Clancy Brown’s original look. In fact, it almost looks like he has a vicar’s ‘dog collar’.
It is believed that despite initial delays, the film is on course for a 2027 or early 2028 release.
