With filming now firmly underway, we’re getting more glimpses and ideas of how some elements of Highlander are coming together.
One of the locations of the reboot – directed by Chad Stahelski – appears to be at the Tower of London where Henry Cavill was on set alongside Jeremy Irons his week. The two last worked together on Justice League with Cavill playing Superman and Irons playing Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth. Irons (who, ironically, in real life owns his own castle!) is said to be playing the leader of the Watchers, the generational organisation that has chronicled the lives of Immortals for centuries. In this incarnation, it appears the Watchers could be overt adversaries rather than the more neutral stance they took in the series (various individual members excluded).
Amongst the images and unofficial video, which seem to have first appeared via UK tabloid the Daily Star, we appear to see the aftermath of a crash between a car and MacLeod’s motor-bike and eagle-eyed fans have also glimpsed what appears to be the same kind of white-helmed katanas as previously used in Highlander.
So far, there’s been no sign of Dave Bautista, Russell Crowe or other members of the cast, but if the film sticks to similar beats seen in the 1986 original, that really isn’t too surprising given where and when their characters (The Kurgan and Ramirez respectively) appear in the story.
Cavill appears to be wearing brown leather all-weather clothing that is reminiscent of what we saw previous MacLeods – both Connor (Christopher Lambert) and same-clan-different-vintage Duncan (Adrian Paul) don at times in their movie appearances.
