The Highlander reboot has been on the cards for a long time. Over fifteen years ago, Kevin McKidd’s name was in the ring as a contender for the lead role. (HLWW‘s John Mosby spoke to him at the Brave premiere in 2012 and he said he hadn’t even been approached at the time, but that didn’t stop the continued speculation). However, that’s now changed. The Scottish-born actor is known for the likes of Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, Rome, Brave and Star Wars: Rebels. though it’s his long-standing role as Dr. Owen Hunt in the highly-successful Grey’s Anatomy for which many in the US will recognise him. He may not be playing Connor MacLeod now, but his participation in the reboot has been confirmed. The details of his role (for the moment) remain unspecified, but let’s say that Scottish heritage may prove useful!
Other casting news reveals more actors joining the cast as it readies to film…
Jun Jong-seo has been cast, possibly as a member of the Watchers. The Korean actor starred in 2023’s Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon and Project Y, a crime-thriller that premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival in September. She has also appeared in Burning (the first South Korean film nominated for the U.S. Academy Award for Best International Feature Film).
Irish actor Siobhán Cullen looks to be essaying a role that seems similar to the character of the movie’s Brenda, being described as a ‘police psychiatrist who learns about immortal beings and wants to help Cavill’s character‘. Her previous projects include The Limehouse Golem, Dalgleish and recurring/regular roles in The Dry, Bodkin and Obituary.
French actor Nassim Lyes (Under Paris, AD Vitam, Night is meant for Sleeping and Mayhem!) also joins the cast in a (as yet) un-named role, though it has been claimed he is ‘an immortal pursuing MacLeod‘.
