The Highlander franchise has a long association with professional wrestling. The original film introduced us to a modern Connor Macleod watching a wrestling match at Madison Square Garden, Roddy Piper was a guest-star on the series and in the film Highlander: Endgame, we have an appearance by Andrew Copeland (aka the WWE‘s ‘Edge’) as an ill-fated highwayman. The stars of the film also attended a WWE event as part of the film’s publicity at the time of release.
So, it shouldn’t be a huge surprise to hear that the tradition continues with Drew McIntyre being added to the reboot cast. It is believed he will play Macleod’s ‘brother’ Angus. (As die-hard fans know, all Immortals are adopted foundlings, which means Angus would be a familial clan brother, rather than biological of the existing mythology endures.
McIntyre’s acting has largely been in the square ring, though he did appear in 2024’s The Killer’s Game which also featured fellow Highlander star Dave Bautista.
In the original Highlander film, the character of ‘Angus Macleod’ was played by industry veteran James Cosmo who has appeared in numerous film and television productions including Braveheart and Troy.
