Rewrite...

April 3, 1985 saw a rewrite which changed the opening scene from a hocky match, replacing it with a wrestling match.

In the beginning...

It opened with Sean Connory talking to us of those who couldn't die; who lived secret lives amongst us, preparing for battle.

A resounding soundtrack from Queen proclaimed these silent strangers amongst us to be kings and masters of the universe. In quick visual and aural succession we were introduced to one man who sat in the stalls of Madison Square Garden watching one warrior contest but seeing another, centuries old.


Were his memories real, we wondered?

Is he remembering something that he lived through, centuries before in Scotland? Could he be one of these silent men who have moved down the centuries?

Within 2 minutes we had been introduced to the world of Immortals and as we reached for more coke for a suddenly parched throat we barely had time to tighten that seatbelt another notch, sit back - and prepare to enter a whole new world.

The end?

Connor Macleod was born in 1518 in Glenfinnan in the Highlands of Scotland. In 1536, during a battle he faces a mysterious evil opponent and is mortally wounded but does not die. The villagers banish him believing this to be the work of the devil.

Connor burns his home

Five years later, Macleod is met by Juan Sanchez Villa-Lobos Ramirez, a swordsman who teaches Macleod the truth - he is immortal - one of a race of many who can only die when the head is cut from the body. When one immortal takes the head of another, the loser's power is absorbed into the winner.

Ramirez teaches Macleod the ways of the sword, until Ramirez is tragically killed by Connor's ultimate opponent, the evil Kurgan, a murderous immortal brute who lusts for the ultimate power of the immortals, "The Prize"; enough power to rule the earth forever. Christopher Lambert

Connor fights his way through the centuries, until the time of the Gathering, when the few immortals who have survived the endless battles come together to fight until only one remains and that winner will receive The Prize.

The time: 1985. The place: New York City. MacLeod once again meets the myseterious evil opponent - the Kurgan who nearly killed him 500 years ago. The final fight is about to begin, and in the end, there can be only one..........................

The 'Rachel Scene'

The 'Rachel Scene', which is missing in the US version of the film, was considered so important to the story and McLeod's character, that th eproducers and director personally paid to have it shot after the film had ended.
